In my work I emphasize the process of art making. I find my creative direction through direct contact with the glass--the motion of glass, the accumulation of parts, the building of the form. The dialogue between the glass and myself continues to absorb me. Because it is an exchange of actions and not spoken words, which can be deceptive, I feel that there is a kind of purity and sincerity in this interaction between myself, the process, and my work.

When I start working on my pieces, I usually don't have any concrete idea or clear image of the final product. Armed with only a loose concept I trust the process of art making will lead me to my ultimate creative destination.

No matter what technique I use--whether blowing, casting, or cold working--I am always inspired by the process. I sometimes begin with a few experimental ideas and then once I begin the process I start to get an inkling of where I want to go with the piece. This may sound impractical but the motions of making are what drive and inspire me to create my work.

Hot glass has a "memory"--all your actions during the course of making are retained within the piece until it is shattered or melted down. These memories often affect the outcome of a piece and can sometimes determine its success or failure. Because I put my own experiences and emotions, both positive and negative, into my work I consider glass a memory repository. In this way my pieces become not just sculptural objects but also a record of my life.
